Course Details

A training day typically runs from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

--Leave at 8:00 AM from a prearranged location.  Student receives handbook and a DVD on hunting tips.

--Arrive at range facility around 9:00 AM.  You will then have the opportunity to live fire different high power hunting rifles.  If you have a rifle that needs to be sited-in, we can get that accomplished at the range.   We will discuss required equipment, safety and ethics of a hunter. Bow hunting and related equipment discussion is also available at student request.

--Stop at Virginia State Wildlife Managed Area (WMA) around 11: 00.    Mini-scouting trip ---- discuss pros and cons of state vs. private lands and show you places to hunt at that location.

--12:30 PM get lunch and head for National Forest and location of additional places to hunt. Look for deer signs, travel routes, and possible hunting spots.

--Short detour to another farm for more scouting and short discussion on varmint hunting.

--Around 2:00 PM, head for location to scout for deer and possible set-up for either a real or mock deer hunt and end training around 6:00 PM.

All of the above can be modified to meet the needs of the students.

All new hunters must have completed the Virginia State Hunter Safety Course and all hunters must have a current Virginia State Hunting License.  The above is required only if we are in a live hunt. Contact the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries for the State Hunter Safety course schedules.
